Reimagining

It has been almost a year to the day since my last entry. I deleted my site for a good while, but now I’m back. Did you notice the name change?

Miranda Rodgers Martin

Jason and I eloped last April in Santa Barbara in the Madame Ganna Walska Lotusland gardens. We honeymooned up the coast in Carmel-by-the-Sea and The Sea Ranch. I wish I were there now feeling the wind from the mighty ocean while gazing out to the winding, rugged yet serene and magical landscapes of the northern coast.

My beloved senior chihuahua Chloe passed away in January. She was 17. I miss her every day. I have filled my days with sowing flower seeds, watching the moon wax and wane, enjoying the seasons, visiting with friends, reading, and making.

We have purchased a couple pieces of art and decor for our home, but no major changes. We’ve kind of run out of steam with what we want to do with the rental. So! I decided to reimagine our space. It was a project I was really excited about but I lost interest in that, too. There’s only so much you can do on screen. I love the tangible aspect of design — arranging things in real life. I want to knock down walls and let in the sunlight! See all my ideas really come together. In order to do that, I’ve taken all my plans and am working on a doll/miniature house kit that will keep my hands and heart busy trying to figure out how to replicate full scale furniture into 1/12 scale replicas.

Crafting in Miniature

There are many designs that I keep in my “I will one day own that” folder. And many of those designs are showing up here in the miniature. I customed ordered the Orior Marmar table from an Etsy maker in India. It is the cutest little thing! I sourced samples of the beautiful French fabrics above with plans to print them on freezer paper (to achieve the correct scale and save hundreds of dollars) to start upholstering my sofa and chairs.

I’m super excited to try my hand at making an Olivier Mourgue flower floor lamp or a French-inspired bamboo armoire. I even tried my hand making a tiny rattan Ferm Duo floor lamp which ultimately didn’t turn out. I cut it in pieces which is the basket seen below.

We are super ecstatic that the Paul Savitt painting of Diana the Huntress is on her way to our home to be proudly displayed in the dining room. I can’t wait! And she may appear in miniature, too!

Stay tuned to see how my mini house evolves!
